It's powerful - but affordable.
What's more, it can be reconfigured with different payment or donation amounts in just seconds. No need to purchase or lease multiple units!
The TAP Reader is capable of reading both contactless (tap) and contact (dip) payment cards in one small, powerful compact unit.
Smart faceplates are interchangeble and allow the payment or donation amount to be changed at any time, in just seconds!
For network connectivity, units can be connected to smartphones via Bluetooth, or can be configured to be completely standalone and unattended using the latest LTE-M cellular technology.
Because of its small size, a TAP Reader can be used in various configurations and applications.
For example, it can be simply handheld or used as a wearable with a neck lanyard. The included lithium-ion rechargeable battery provides approximately 4 hours of operation. Optional battery packs provide much more.
For unattended applications, a reader can also be incorporated into a counter display or free-standing poster, and operated continuously using a standard 5V wall charger.
Readers are rugged and reliable, and can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Transactions are fast, easy and secure. Just TAP and go!
Other solutions in the market are easy targets for thieves through skimming attacks. Payment card information can be easily stolen by simply covering "the receiver" with an unauthorized one, or creating a counterfeit display.
TAP solves this problem by allowing a donor to authenticate a reader using their smartphone before making a donation or payment.
The standard TAP Reader is extremely compact and measures just 67mm x 67mm x 22mm - smaller than all other unattended payment devices on the market.
But we're also developing wearables that are even smaller. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements!
Contactless cards and mobile payment systems are fast and convenient, but not everyone has access to such cards - particularly in the US where contact 'chip cards' are still very much the standard and less than 15% of all cards are contactless.
Our patent-pending technology allows 'fixed' amounts to be quickly and easily reconfigured at any time. Change a unit from $5 to $10? No problem - it can be done in seconds.
Just swap out the unit's smart faceplate. Each contains a secure chip that identifies the faceplate. The unit is automatically updated with the new amount. No fuss!
Smart faceplates can also be customized with different colors or logos, and are available for a one-time fee.
TAP Reader configuration requires a companion mobile application - available for both iPhone and Android smartphones.
The app also provides real-time notifications and display of payments and donations made for each linked device.
In 2018, members of the TAP team devised, designed and developed the original version of the "world's smallest unattended [payment] device" in use today by the Salvation Army, YMCA, Make a Wish, MADD and others.
Fast forward to 2022, and the new TAP Reader significantly improves upon those older fixed sum payment devices by adding new functionality, flexibility and even security - while reducing both unit and overall system costs!
